I’ve just has a weird few days. AF was almost 2 days late, then I started spotting. Normally it’s quite heavy but it is so light today! Anyway, I’m going to start using OPKs this month and charting my temperature (following all the ttc ladies’ great advice!). I got hold of some OPKs from eBay and I went into Boots today and asked for a Basal Body Temperature thermometer, this is what I thought they were called. The lady didn’t have a clue what I was going on about! I then went and tried 2 more pharmacies asking for the same thing and none of them knew what the hell I was talking about! After looking very stupid, I bought a normal digital thermometer which measures your temperature to one decimal place. Is this ok? I’m a bit lost with it all! I was hoping nature would just take its course and make me pregnant but 6 months on we’re still trying so I’m going to give the OPKs and temperature charting a go!
Ok, I feel really stupid. Can anyone help?

My Re told me to purchase a regular digital thermometer. He said you would be wasting the extra money on a BBT. The only difference it a a 100th of a degree. I have been BBT for a year now and doing just fine with the digital one. GL & HTH
This really makes no sense to me..
Are you trying for a baby? i don’t think it matters what temperature you are..
That is what they are called they probably just don’t know what you were talking about. Walgreens and walmart have them.
You should be just fine with a regular thermometer. I’ve had both, I don’t see any real difference with a basal thermometer in my charts. As long as it’s accurate, you should be fine
(I don’t see why it wouldn’t be, and as long as you’re using the same one every day then you should be able to establish a pattern on your charts.
Good luck to you!
don’t feel stupid! that is what they are called, so i don’t know why they wouldn’t know what that is!
i’ve seen them next to the HPTs in my pharmacy, so i know they have them lol.
anyways, lots of baby dust to you
Dont feel stupid hun…because that is what they are called!
I dont think it will make much of a difference but if you did want a proper BBT .. I know that ebay have a few xxx
Oh, you should not feel stupid! It is very brave of you to ask if you are uncertain. It is responsible and mature. No one is born knowing everything. Everybody seeks their answers somewhere and that is why you are here!
I guess you are trying to conceive. I am trying too. Good to find someone to share our experiences and hopefully we will be successful in the end. I did a lot of reading on this subject and I found out that just taking your basal temperature is actually not enough. First because the temperature actually rises AFTER the egg is released. So you would have little or no time to try to conceive. My doctor advised me to religiously record the ovulation calendar every month and watch the consistency of the mucus. Good luck and hope you find what works for you!
