Unfortunately when I tested it on boiling water, it ‘declared’ that the boiling point of water is 90 degrees C. Given that I only live about 50 feet above sea level, I expected a reading somewhat closer to 100 degrees C!!
Not overly impressed by the display, but in fairness it’s pretty much as in the picture. You have to slide in a plastic sheet, which goes between the display and the outer screen, in order to ‘read’ the display in English (or several other languages) but it’s quite difficult to get it in fully, which you have to do to get the words to line up with the display options (and impossible to get it out again).
I’ve requested a replacement, but if that reads incorrectly, then I’ll give up.

Ordered the Meat Thermometer on 17/12(thursday before Xmas!) to ease problem with a ‘Chicken and Ostrich Crown’ for which I had no cooking advice.
The package from Amazon arrived on the 24th standard delivery!
The probe was inserted into the Crown, programmed to 62 degrees centigrade and put into the preheated oven at 160C(as advised for duck in the accompanying leaflet). The unit bleeped after about 50 minutes, the roast removed and left to rest.
The roast was nicely cooked, the outer chicked was well cooked and the filling of ostrich was just done – overcooking makes it tough!
There are options for beef, lamb, pork, chicken and manual. Beef and lamb allow for rare to well done and all temperatures are set automatically. Manual allows for user setting of target temperature or time(included in booklet), when reached the alarm goes off – reasonably loud electronic bleep.
I did not start using this until it came to making my marmalade this month – it did not work. A great disappointment not to mention a complete waste of time and money.
Mastrad Meat and Jam Thermo SensorI would highly recommend this item, The wife uses it mainly for Jam making and it is very accurate,The first one was faulty but then again you can always get that, and it was replaced immediately with no quibbles, and if this one ever failed then I would certainly have no worries in purchasing the same again

So far so good with this product – it’s simpy superb, does exactly what it’s supposed to do and does it easily. The results have been excellent, and it just shows how the temp gauge on an oven shouldn’t be trusted. I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about cooking.

I bought this on the strength of the reviews.
