im buying a digital thermometer from ebay for 1.44gbp, it has to travel from china to the uk, the add said free p+p, i was unaware i had to pay for importation though. how much should i have to pay extra? and who too? will tinxi (the company) charge me the tax or will the goverment or who and how and who do i pay it to??

You bought one costing a little over one pound? HMRC will not charge you any taxes – it would cost them more to collect than the tax itself. Did you check out the price at your local Boots or Maplin? They might charge a few pence more but at least you wouldn’t lie awake at night worrying about the import duty.
